Biocompatibility can be called the compatibility of medical devices when interacting with the patient. Biocompatibility can also be defined as the non-reaction of patients to medical products beyond the expected. The body's reactions to the images differ from person to person. For this reason, it is necessary to ensure harmony between the patient and the product. Otherwise, undesirable results will occur or it will not reach its intended use. In this sense, the materials used are referred to as biomaterials.
Biomaterials are the materials that enter the living system and are related to this system. Materials that do not show any pharmacological reaction during intercourse with this system are considered compatible. The most general definition for biocompatibility is that the chemical interaction of body and material fluids and the physiological consequences of the interaction do not harm the body or how much it does.
If we look at what is biocompatibility, it is defined as the ability of materials to adapt to the body system during application and the ability to respond appropriately to the body system. Materials, which means biocompatible, that is compatible with the body, do not interfere with the normal changes of the surrounding tissues. It can be said that they are materials that do not produce the desired reactions in the tissue. Structural compatibility is the optimum compatibility of materials to the mechanical behavior of body tissues. In recent years, important information has been obtained on the understanding of biomaterial and tissue interaction.
Biocompatibility tests measure how compatible the medical device is with the biological system. With these tests, the suitability of the device for human use is measured. It also shows whether device use has potentially harmful physiological effects. With biocompatibility tests, the clinical evaluation of the medical device is performed. Laboratories plan these tests in several stages. Performing the tests with the creation of the test matrix and completing the reporting as a result of the evaluations. When we look at what are the biocompatibility tests:
